What we require is an old-style
DOC format file (or new-style DOCX), which can be produced on Windows, or Mac using MS Word or by using free Linux/Mac/Win software, such as
. You can also use Google Docs (if you have a free Google account) or MS Word on-line (if you have a free Microsoft account) to make your proposal in the required template. In Google Docs, for example, simply use File>Open>Upload to upload the template above (first, you have to download it to your computer).
*****"EARLY-BIRD" DEADLINE: January 5, 2018.*****
DEADLINE: March 9, 2018.*****
SUBMISSION FOR LACUS 2018 IS CLOSED
Anyone needing extra lead time to submit a travel grant proposal or to make visa arrangements should try to meet the "early-bird" deadline of January 5 so as to be able to receive notice of acceptance / rejection from LACUS by the middle of February.
Here are some guidelines you are asked to follow:
Do NOT include your name and affiliation inside the proposal. Reviewing is "blind."
Do NOT include the title inside the proposal. Proposals will be labelled by filename when sent to reviewers.
DO include citations and
all references cited
. Do NOT include a statement like "references would not fit" or similar. Make the entire proposal fit in the space provided.
Abstracts without citations or references will be rejected
You may include graphics if you need them. However, keep in mind that you have a certain amount of
for your proposal (the box on the template,
a maximum word count.
Use 8-point Arial or Gothic (sans serif). Please do not try to cheat on space by making your text smaller (6-point, for example).
If you need text in a non-English font, please make sure the font is built-in to a North American version of MS Word (virtually all European languages are) OR tell your word processor to include the font(s) in your file (probably necessary for Chinese, for example). If you don't know how to do the latter, put all examples in figures (graphics), at least for now.
Indent paragraphs (all of them)
as shown on the samples
Reverse indent references in your references list,
as shown on the samples
include a blank line between paragraphs, but
include a blank line before and after any figures, tables, or lists of examples.
When listing, please use "(1), (2), (3)" / "(a), (b), (c)," / "(i), (ii), (iii)," etc.,
"", "1.", "1)", "1 - ", etc.
In the body of the text, make sure you actually state the issue (problem / question) you are addressing, establish the context for it (by citing past work), clarify how you are going to address the issue, summarize the basis for your argument, and state your overall "answer" to it. If you are doing experimental or survey work, briefly identify the subject population, and briefly
describe your instrument and procedure, as well as your methods of statistical analysis, if any. Include specific examples (if needed) to illustrate main points
Here are two sample abstracts showing good style and acceptable formatting: click on
These samples are PDFs, but you must submit a DOC (or DOCX) file
on the template
. PDF, RTF, TXT, WPD, etc. are
acceptable. Proposals not in the required form
will not be reviewed
